General Information.

We are a residential home registered with the Aberdeen City Council. Our aim is to provide a home for 17 individuals for the remaining years of their lives, unless medical problems make hospital or nursing home care essential. Our co-workers, voluntary and employed, join in with all caring, nursing, domestic and social activities.

We have two interconnecting single-storied houses, the larger providing nine places, and the smaller six places. Situated off the North Deeside road, Simeon is five miles from Aberdeen and only ¼ mile from the Post Office, local shops, and bus service.

Rooms

All our bedrooms are single. You may furnish the room with your own possessions or, where appropriate, Simeon can help. Each room has a wash-hand basin, a call system, and a telephone socket to which one can connect a portable telephone. All rooms are wheelchair accessible. We have a bath hoist, and there are handrails in every bathroom and passageway. Residents and co-workers share all our dining room, sitting room, kitchen, and laundry. If you wish, we will look after your personal laundry, as well as your linen. Please see that you name your clothes before you arrive.

Meals

Mealtimes are: Breakfast – 8.15am; Coffee – 11am; Lunch – 1pm; Tea – 4pm; Supper – 6pm; Evening Tea – 8pm. If you are unable to rise so early, a co-worker will arrange breakfast at your convenience. We cook a wide variety of food, and our professional cook will make every effort to satisfy the most diverse palate! Simeon caters for meat and vegetarian diets. At weekends, co-workers have the opportunity to cook the main meal; residents should feel free to offer help or give advice.

Medical

You are welcome to keep your own doctor. If this is not possible, you have the choice of two local practices. Co-workers usually handle any prescribed medication, although self-medication is an alternative. There is a carer on duty during the night.

We have a visiting chiropodist and hairdresser. Simeon can arrange dental appointments when needed. Should you need admitting to hospital, we will keep your room vacant for twelve months. In the event of your hospitalisation lasting longer than six weeks, Simeon will reduce your residential fee by 20%.

Holidays

We encourage our residents to go away for the weekend or a break.

Visitors

We hope your friends and family will visit and take you on outings. They may do this at any time that suits you, but we do need to know when you leave the premises.

Religion

As a community, we follow the Christian festivals, but respect those who follow other beliefs and forms of worship. You are welcome to attend your own church and have your minister come to see you. Simeon holds the Christian Community service regularly in our hall.

Social Activities

Our social and artistic activities are many, but here again you choose if you wish to join in; the same applies to the social and cultural outings, which Simeon does not arrange. Simeon provides daily newspapers. We ask you to restrict drinking alcohol to your room. Simeon has a no smoking indoors policy. Simeon allows smoking outside the buildings.
