On 1 August 1984, the vision of a group consisting
of doctors, Camphill co-workers, and local Aberdeen residents founded Simeon
Care for the Elderly. Two reasons led this group to their vision: firstly,
the local community asking for old age provision and secondly, a similar
need arising within the Camphill Rudolf Steiner Schools.
To begin with, the group met to study the needs of
'old age in our time'. This work continued for two years until they came
to a first understanding. The group then sought the suitable people to
begin this new impulse; people who could create a community, and offer
the necessary care and love the old person needs as he or she takes the
next step in life. Ursula Schroeder, Steve and Mirjami Lyons undertook
this task. The group found suitable buildings on Cairnlee Estate, and
this location is perfect for peace and privacy as well as being close
enough to town.
Over the next twelve years, Simeon went from
strength to strength slowly building up a community of sixteen residents
and twelve co-workers. With each year Simeon learned from new experiences,
new ideas arose, and the community blossomed. Would you like to come and help us? If so contact us.
