Building a community of care - construction work begins on Simeon’s new chapter

It’s an exciting time for everyone at Simeon Care as work begins on our new-build project.

Right now, our home is at full capacity, with demand continuing to grow. The new facility, which includes 18 ensuite ground-floor bedrooms, each with direct access to our secure, dementia-friendly garden, will help us to welcome more people into a place where care, dignity and compassion come first.

We have already secured more than half of the funding towards the build and have launched a £2 million fundraising campaign towards the final amount.

The new facility will enable us to increase the number of local authority-funded places available. The plans also include welcoming communal spaces such as a residents’ kitchen and lounge, a therapy room, family room, a hair and nail salon, and a laundry room.

The project comes at a time when care services across the region are under increasing strain. Too often, older people are spending their final moments in hospital, or at home without the specialist support that they need and deserve.

Jennifer McAughtrie, General Manager at Simeon, says: “Demand for care and nursing home places is expected to double in the coming decades. More of us are choosing to stay in our own homes for longer before transitioning to residential care, which means care needs are often more complex. At Simeon, we’re proud to offer a place where residents can truly live life on their own terms, surrounded by warmth, understanding, and expert care.

“We’re so grateful for all the support that we receive from the friends and family members who have been part of Simeon’s story and we’ll be working with the Friends of Simeon group, our wider community, as well as those who live and work in the area as part of our fundraising efforts.”

At Simeon, we believe that how we live and how we are cared for in the autumn of our lives matters greatly. No one should feel alone, unsupported or left without comfort at such an important time.

Every room added means another family can be together at the end of life, surrounded by love and community. With your support, we can ensure that more people spend their final years in a place defined by positivity, dignity and happiness.
