Christine, who is 99 years old, has resided at Simeon for three years. We spoke with her to find out what she enjoys about life at Simeon, her favourite moments, and a piece of advice she has for young people.

What was it about Simeon compared to other care homes that made you choose to move here?

I used to visit a very close friend’s mother at Simeon Care prior to moving in. I felt she was so well cared for while she was there.

I liked the overall environment and the gardens, and I thought, ‘This is the place for me’!

What do you enjoy most about daily life at Simeon?

I like chatting with friends over lunch. Simeon is as near to feeling in your own home as you can get. I like joining in with daily activities, especially things like Armchair Travels, and group activities.

Is there a moment or experience here that has meant a lot to you?

Special events such as the Simeon Highland Games and the big Simeon 40th Birthday party.

It was also special to me that the staff organised for me to be able to watch the live stream of my granddaughter’s wedding from London, so I didn’t miss out. A projector was set up so I could watch from the comfort of my room. I felt the staff went above and beyond.

How do the staff support you in staying connected with your family and the things that matter to you?

I like that there are no visiting times, so friends and family are always welcome to visit me. I like that the staff don’t wear uniforms, so we all feel like family. I feel well cared for and supported both during the day and throughout the night.

If you had to give a young person a piece of advice, what would it be?

I would tell a young person to always make time for their loved ones, so they have special memories, and to take an interest in everything around them.
