Five Ways That Simeon Care Is Home Away from Home

From the moment you step through the door at Simeon, there is a feeling that this isn’t your ordinary care home. Simeon feels different.

Whether it’s the friendly welcome, warm decor with thoughtfully chosen artwork and neutral smell of a clean home that replaces the clinical feel often associated with care settings, or person-centred approach based on Camphill principles, we’re committed to making sure our nursing home is a place where residents and their loved ones actively want to spend time. We want residents to feel like they’re walking through their own front door.

We are respected by health care professionals and trusted by families for its sector-leading care, supportive community, and unique blend of mainstream and anthroposophical medical care.

Here are five things to know about life at Simeon.

  1. A community spirit

Life at Simeon is rooted in togetherness. From seasonal celebrations to music, creative activities, and visits that bring generations together, our days are full of connection and joy.

These shared experiences stimulate memory, spark laughter, and strengthen social connections, helping to combat loneliness and isolation.

This sense of community is what makes Simeon feel like home for our residents.

Simeon is defined by a deeply human ethos of care for each other. We are focused on creating a peaceful, safe, and nurturing environment where everyone is recognised as individuals. Our team knows residents and families exceptionally well, not just names and routines, but preferences, stories, and personalities. They know how someone likes their tea, what brings comfort, and what helps them feel at ease.

  1. A person-centred approach combining mainstream and anthroposophical medicine

We offer anthroposophical medicine as part of our holistic approach to care. This complements, rather than replaces, the conventional medical care we provide.  Rather than focusing only on physical symptoms, this approach supports the whole person, body, soul, and spirit, and recognises that health and wellbeing are deeply personal.

It honours each person’s individuality and natural rhythms, offering a gentler, more personalised way of caring. In this way, our approach reflects our commitment to dignity, relationships, and the belief that every person is unique within our community.

  1. A warm welcome, no matter the time

At Simeon, there are no set visiting hours. We believe a home should feel like home. That means family and friends are welcome to come and go as they please. Whether it’s a quick morning visit, sharing a sit-down meal, popping in for a cup of tea, or even joining an activity, we encourage loved ones to make the most of every precious moment together.

It’s also an important part of helping new residents transition into their new living arrangements. We actively encourage family members to stay for an evening meal. This not only helps the resident to settle in but also helps us to get to know family members.

  1. No uniforms for a homely feel

Our staff don’t wear uniforms, and that’s intentional.  Simeon is not a clinical or institutional environment. It’s home. By dressing in everyday clothes, our team helps create a relaxed, familiar atmosphere where residents feel comfortable and at ease.

Relationships come first, and a uniform-free approach helps break down barriers and foster genuine connections. Family members often comment that they appreciate this detail as it feels more relaxed and homely.

  1. A home from home

Every detail of the home has been carefully considered to create a space that feels warm, welcoming, and comfortable. From the moment you walk in, the warm décor, meaningful artwork, and friendly welcome help set the tone. Our spaces are thoughtfully designed with soft colours, carefully chosen artwork, and homely touches that support comfort, dignity, and choice.

Residents are also encouraged to bring their own furniture and personal belongings, so their room feels familiar and truly their own. Even the small details matter - the home is clean, fresh, and well-ventilated, creating an environment that feels pleasant and calm. From the way rooms look and feel to the way they smell and sound, everything is designed to help residents feel relaxed, respected, and at home.

Our approach gives families peace of mind, knowing their loved ones are safe, comfortable, and receiving dignified, personalised care. Through compassion, respect, and personal connection, care is shaped around the whole person.
